Sealed! Iniesta Signs Lifetime Deal With Barcelona
Today, Andres Iniesta signed a lifetime contract with Barcelona, this ended months of speculation over his future in the club.
There were fears that the Barca captain would make a shock exit in the summer following the expiration of his previous deal, but the club have now announced that an agreement has been reached.
This was confirmed in a statement on the club’s official website, describing the midfielder as one of their most ‘distinguished symbols
Nicknamed ‘Illusionista’ for his slippery and magical displays, Iniesta is one of the greatest midfielders of all times having won eight La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns during his time at Barca.
He was also a prominent member of Spain’s double European Championship successes and the World Cup in 2010, where he famously netted the extra-time winner in the final against the Netherlands.
Barca will now be concerned with securing the future of talisman Lionel Messi, who, like Iniesta, runs out of contract in the summer of 2018.
The 30-year-old Argentine presently has an eye-watering £500,000 per week deal after tax before him, but is reportedly waiting for solid reinforcements before committing to the club.
